Every month you have to go through the same thing: almost a week (or more) of feeling down, unmotivated, exhausted and emotional, before your period comes through.
It sets you back in your schedule;
the religious habits you're trying to get down;
the sins you're trying to leave behind for good;
and the focus on Deen you've created.
This is that time where conflict sparks in your marriage and you feel like a mean mom for not keeping your cool with your children.
Everything feels just so.. intense, overwhelming, chaotic?
You wonder if you've ever done anything right in your life??
Then you are not able to fast or pray for about a week and feel lost in your connection to Allah, as if there's something missing and you become uneasy. Distracted.
When your period is over, you still need time to get back into the flow you were in before.
Many women even struggle with irregular cycles and even PCOS, excacerbating everything we just talked about.
Is this just what the life of a woman is supposed to be like?
Do we have to take pills that mess with our natural hormones in order to avoid this happening in our holy Ramadan, only to then be affected by the pills themselves?
Nein! With a little bit of education, a little bit of lifestyle changes and a little bit (or wait.. maybe like a lot) of self-love and healing, you can reduce PMS symptoms to almost 0.
And your connection to Allah ta'aala can stay fresh and fueled year round as well, if you're smart in your approach to 'ibadah.
When I was still healing from chronic depression, I would feel myself sink into the same feelings of despair and lack of joy after every ovulation.
If I didn't know any better, I'd believe the issue was purely brain- and health-based.
Because:
If our brain is inflamed (due to a leaky gut leading to a leaky blood brain barrier, blood sugar imbalances, toxic relationships, nutritional deficiencies or food sensitivities, a previous head injury, etc...);
Or there's tumors, malnutrition or sleep disturbances influencing its functioning;
We might see that come back in our reproductive cycle.

"Complicated, sis.." Don't worry, I got you.
All of my coaching programs are built to approach your wellness as a holistic situation, helping you make the necessary changes for an energized quality life.
I don't bully my clients into change, I make them love life and themselves after which things start flowing naturally.
So healthy lifestyle for happy hormones... Science said so. Good food, good company, self-care, move your body, nature, all of that!
If that feels like a punishment and gives you anxiety, it's time to book a call.
But there's something else you need to know:
If you have too much stress, your stress hormones are going to steal something called pregnenolone, which should actually be used to make sufficient fertility hormones.
This sets the stage for hormone imbalances, especially progesterone deficiencies that underlie PMS, infertility, difficult menopause transition and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Symptoms of low progesterone include:
Irritability and mood swings
Depression and anxiety
Migraines
Insomnia
Fatigue
Irregular menstruation (including frequent periods)
Inability to concentrate
Low libido
So.. what if what your cycle is doing is your body's way of saying it's storing something that dysregulates it?
What if during PMS, you are supposed to embrace the opportunity to listen to yourself?
What old pain is resurfacing?
What fears are hiding under the surface?
What negative core beliefs are more prominent?
Your relationships, what are they doing to your nervous system? Do you experience internal chaos within them, don't know what to think about what?
I loved this quote:
“We are healed of a suffering only by experiencing it to the full.”
"Beautiful... But could anyone make this go a little faster?
Can I just go towards the part where I am productive and feel amazing and connected to my Rabb instead of like a sobbing mess every time I've ovulated?"
Quick fixes don't exist for holistic, full well-being, but you can go faster if you have the right knowledge, support and a plan forward.
